Day 2 of 30—Finding Your Secret Place with God
Well, good morning, guys, and welcome to day two of the thirty-day prayer challenge. We’re taking ten minutes a day to seek the face of the Lord and truly pray with Him.
As you can see, it’s not morning time. I’ve been up for a long time today, but I got up early this morning and spent my prayer time with the Lord. Most days, I spend longer than ten minutes, and I did today as well, but the important thing is to take the time to pray, so I’m challenging you on this second day: take that time and pray. In fact, here’s what the Bible says.
The Bible says in Matthew 6:6 that whenever you go away to pray by yourself—I’m kind of paraphrasing—shut the door behind you and pray to your Father who is in secret. The Bible says that your Father who sees you in secret will reward you openly.
I want to remind you that there are open rewards for taking time to seek the face of our Heavenly Father. Yes, we can request things of Him and ask Him for help, and that’s part of the reward, but the other part is that we actually get to know Him as our Heavenly Father, as a real person, because God is a real person. That only happens when you communicate and keep that line of communication open.
So I want to encourage you to take your ten minutes. If you haven’t already, find a quiet place, shut the door behind you, and get alone with the Lord. Begin to pour out the things in your heart that you need to express to Him. Maybe you want to say, “God, I love you. God, I worship you. God, I need your help in this area. Lord, I need your help in my marriage. I need your help at my job or with my friends,” or whatever the case may be.
If you have a habit you’re trying to overcome, let me tell you that the surest way to overcome anything like that is to spend time in the secret place with God.
It’s not about using a specific set of words; you just need to pour your heart out to the Heavenly Father.
So on this second day of the challenge, why don’t you do that? Maybe set a timer on your phone like we talked about before. That may sound silly to some, but if it helps you, do it.
Whatever helps you get alone with the Lord, use that as a tool. Just begin to pray, and then take a moment to listen for His voice.
Here’s what I want to leave you with as a reflection question today: What distraction do you need to shut out so that you can pray daily?
Is there a distraction in your life that you need to lay down or put aside to accomplish having just ten minutes alone with the Heavenly Father? Whatever that is, commit to it. Just commit to it. Take action, lay aside that distraction, and commit to pray with your Heavenly Father.
Come on, guys, it’s going to be a great challenge. You’re going to get closer to the Lord.
I’m so proud of you. Let’s pick up our weapons, let’s pick up our armor, and let’s get close to Jesus. We’ll see you tomorrow.
